10 of the most beloved film musicals
'My Fair Lady' (1964)
The Lerner and Loewe stage musical (which in itself was based on the classic play of manners and language, ‘Pygmalion’) got the Hollywood treatment in this cherished adaptation which scooped eight Oscars, including the coveted Best Picture.
Audrey Hepburn is the dirt-ridden cockney flower seller Eliza Doolittle (complete with an over-the-top accent), while a deadpan Rex Harrison is the phonetics professor Henry Higgins who believes that a person’s accent and tone of voice can drastically alter their position in society. Naturally, Eliza scrubs up incredibly well, all set to unforgettable music.
