14-year-old Taliban shooting victim flown to UK for medical treatment

Accused of promoting secularism, Malala Yousafzai, a 14-year-old Pakistani girl was shot on the head by Taliban men. The victim, who is still in critical condition according to doctors, was staying at a military hospital in Rawalpindi.

Pakistan’s interior minister said that the shooting was planned abroad.

He also said that people who are involved in this crime will soon be caught. 

The victim was accompanied by a full medical team as she was air lifted from Pakistan to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. It’s not clear if she is with family members. 

The Pakistani military said:"The panel of doctors recommended that Malala be shifted abroad to a UK centre which has the capability to provide integrated care to children who have sustained severe injury.”

Malala Yousafzai gained popularity at age 11 when she started writing a diary for BBC. In her diaries, she talked about the injustice and suffering brought by militants after they took over Swat Valley in 2007.

Although the Talibans were ousted from Swat Valley in 2009, the young girl continued to receive death threats.
