Apple’s US patent battle sees Tokyo favour Samsung

The battle between the two technology giants over smartphones ended on Friday 24th August, with Apple being awarded approximately $1bn for Samsung copying mobile phone features.

A week later a Tokyo court has reviewed Apple’s patent case, and dismisses the idea that South Korean company Samsung has infringed on patent rules.

It is understood Tokyo looked at the legal case with regards to the ability for mobile phones to share data with PC’s.

In a statement to the BBC, Samsung have said: “We welcome the court's decision, which confirmed our long-held position that our products do not infringe Apple's intellectual property."

They added: "We will continue to offer highly innovative products to consumers, and continue our contributions toward the mobile industry's development."

Californian company Apple, whose popular product is iPhone, argue that Samsung, who use Google’s Android technology, have copied their ideas.

It is understood a judge is considering whether to pull some Samsung products from sale and ban them from the American market.

This would exclude Samsung’s latest Galaxy S3 model but according to the Mail Online, could affect various Galaxy S2 phone models.  Apple’s request to affect these Samsung products is expected to be discussed further at a hearing on September 20th.
