Beyonce and Jay-Z are said to be planning to launch a range of baby products and clothes using the name of their daughter for the brand – Blue Ivy. For this, the couple filed legal papers soon after the singer gave birth in January.
However, they reportedly lost their bid to trademark the name to a Boston-based company who offer wedding planning services. It is understood the firm have used the name Blue Ivy since 2009.
The ruling from the US Patent and Trademark Office means that the couple does not have legal rights to keep the name to themselves.
The owner of the Blue Ivy company, Veronica Alexandra, was forced to file the application as she feared that she’ll be put out of business should the power celebrity couple be successful in their own trademark application.
She said, as reported by The Telegraph: “My company had been called Blue Ivy since 2009. I came up with the name, and if they had won, my business could have been restricted.
“It was important for me to protect the name of my company. We are very successful as wedding planners and wanted to stay that way.”
However, according to some reports Ms. Alexandra is said to have expressed that she welcomes the idea of Beyonce and Jay-Z buying her out.
