Britain's biggest heists
August 6 2009 - Graff Jewellers, Mayfair, London
Eerily relaxed and sharply dressed, two gunmen (captured here on store CCTV) enter an exclusive Graff Jewellers in Mayfair and calmly steal £40 million in gems - Britain's biggest jewel heist. Ironically, the team beat the previous record for the most expensive gem raid (£23m) which occurred in the same store on 2003.
The duo, thought to be in their 30s with London accents, struck at 4:20pm on Thursday August 6 after talking a security guard into to letting them in before closing time. In less than two minutes they claimed 43 items before dragging a female member of staff out of the store at gunpoint and firing a warning shot at the ground. The team weren't alone - a network of getaway cars aided their successful escape.
