Celebs and politics
Jimmie Davis
Known as Louisiana's 'Singing Governor', Davis served two successful terms in the 1940s and 1960s, but still remains best known for writing the hit song 'You Are My Sunshine'. The tune has since become the state song of Louisiana.
His political legacy includes establishing a State Retirement System and funding of more than $100 million in public improvements while leaving the state with a $38 million surplus after his first term.
