Robbie Williams – The X Factor (2009) – MISS
In 2006 the ex-Take That star released the ambitious flop ‘Rudebox’ album – the reception was so harsh that he ducked out of the limelight and all but faded away. By 2009 he had a new album in the can – ‘Reality Killed the Radio Star’.
He performed the debut single ‘Bodies’ on ‘The X Factor’ but it was a shaky performance, made all the more crushing by the fact that it was kept off the singles top spot by the previous year’s talent winner, Alexandra Burke. All in all, it was a highly anticipated but failed comeback.
But then it all started getting better. His first full length gig was the sold-out show at the BBC Electric Proms at London’s Roundhouse in October 2009. It broke a world record – with 250 cinemas across 23 countries, it was the biggest number of simultaneous screenings of a live concert. Robbie was back... eventually.
