Unforgettable movie heists
'The Sting' (1973)
Surely one of the most intelligent heists on film is in 'The Sting'. Robert Redford (on Oscar nominated form) plays a man looking for revenge after a rich hoodlum (Robert Shaw) kills his friend, so with the help of a seasoned con artist (Paul Newman) the duo devise a plan to take him for all he's worth.
What makes it so memorable is that most of the staples of a typical heist are absent – no getaway cars, balaclavas or cops. In its place is a plot so clever, the film warrants a second watching just to link it all together. It's probably the wittiest theft ever recorded. To say anymore would be giving it away…
