Cardiff hit and run driver faces courts following Friday’s events

Driver Matthew Tvrdon, aged 31 years old, is to be charged with murder following the hit and run incidents that took place on Friday in Cardiff, where a mother has died and 13 other people were left injured.

The man will appear before the cities magistrates’ court on Monday and will also be charged with attempted murder, assault and dangerous driving relating to several crashes that took place after the school day had ended.

Victim Karina Menzies, 32-years-old, died from being hit in Ely, Cardiff, and two out of her three daughters were injured. Reportedly both daughters are under the age of 12 with the youngest being less than two years old.

It is thought that four adults and children remain in hospital, according to the BBC, with two of the adults’ condition being critical.

Detective Superintendent Paul Hurley has explained that in reaction to the events, support which has been received has been overwhelming.

He said:  “We wish to express our sincere thanks to the many people who have come forward to give information, provide witness accounts, and offer both CCTV and mobile phone footage of Friday's traumatic and tragic events.”

The police in South Wales are continuing with their investigation as it was “very much on going”. They have appealed for information in connection to the case.

According to reports, around 200 people came together in Ely on Sunday in memory of Ms Menzies, with a church service also being held that day in the area for those affected by the hit and run series of events.
