Cool new toys
Amazon Kindle
This e-book weighs 290g (about the same as a paperback novel but is considerably thinner) and uses wireless technology to download books, magazines and newspapers. It has a battery life of 30 hours, takes two hours to recharge and has a 170 dot per inch screen.
There are currently 90,000 titles available to be downloaded for a charge of $10 (5) each. It also allows users to subscribe, via Amazon, to magazines, newspapers and newsletters. It will also display emails received via a Kindle account for a small charge. It is priced at $399 (194) in America, but does not have a UK release schedule yet.
Is it any good?It depends on how much of a hassle you find carrying a book or paper around. For the price of buying it and the cost of subscribing to and downloading content, it seems a bit pointless. A device such as the iPhone has the technology to provide a similar service as well as providing a number of others at the same time.
