Released in late 1999 Sony's PlayStation 2 was their follow up to the hugely successful PlayStation gaming console. A sixth generation machine, the PS2 is the best selling console of all time.

That said its reign as king was not without trouble. Two years later Silicone Valley giants Microsoft stepped into the arena and began to battle.

Once the dust settled both machines were still standing, both hugely acclaimed successes with profits to back it up. And the war? That continues today with the Xbox 360 and the PS3 now at arms.
