David Walliams attempted suicide while filming ‘Little Britain’

Comedian David Walliams opens up about multiple suicide attempts in his new autobiography...

Comedian David Walliams will release his autobiography entitled ‘Camp David’ on October 11th. Through his new book, the comedian has revealed how he has struggled with depression throughout his whole life.

According to reports David also opens up about how his depression drove him to several suicide attempts, the last of which happened while he was filming Little Britain in 2003. 

The book is said to reveal how David first attempted suicide at aged 12 due to bullying. This was soon followed by another suicide attempt at the age of 18, reportedly over a girl. Walliams allegedly overdosed on painkillers but was taken to the hospital by his mother.

In 2003, Walliams’ last suicide attempt is understood to have also been brought on by a split with an ex-girlfriend. He chronicled the experience in his diary, according to the Mail Online, in which he wrote: “Just tried to hang myself. But I knew I didn’t really want to die, I just didn’t want to live. I took my weight with my feet and sat down. Earlier I had come close to stepping in front of a train.”

“I am in total despair.”

The autobiography is thought to also cover the time Walliams checked into the Priory rehab centre in South-West London. His co-star in ‘Little Britain’, Matt Lucas, had apparently encouraged him to do so to help him recover from the traumatic break-up. 

Now, Walliams’ courage to open up about his depression comes with happier times, as the comedian settles into marital bliss with supermodel Lara Stone, aged 28. They are now doting parents to a puppy named Bert.
