The classic story of one man going from nothing but propelled by determination and pride to become something great has rarely been handled as well as in 'Rocky'. Whether he's punching carcasses or running up the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Rocky Balboa is powerful but vulnerable in equal measure – traits which the sequels neglected.

It's staggering to think that so early on in his career Sylvester Stallone took the lead role and wrote the script, bagging Oscar nominations in each category despite being relatively unknown at the time.
