Brits win brig at Golden Globes

It was a good night for Britons last night at the Golden Globes, with Kate Winslet, Idris Elba and Downton Abbey all winning awards.
Kate won the Best Actress in a Miniseries or TV Movie prize for her role in Mildred Pierce, saying:
"I’d like to thank the Hollywood Foreign Press for giving this award to me and for putting me in a category with such incredible heavyweights whom I feel honoured to stand alongside."
The first to congratulate the star was her new boyfriend, Ned Rocknroll.
Idris Elba - who shot to fame in the U.S. after his role in The Wire - won the Best Actor in a Miniseries accolade for Luther.

It seems that the hit ITV drama, Downton Abbey has experienced much the same success in the States, as it won the gong for Best Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television.
The show's creator, Julian Fellowes, accepted the award saying:
"The whole Downton adventure has been an extraordinary one. Like spotting a promising child and waking up to find they have won the Olympics – and that’s what we’ve lived through."
Other winners included Meryl Streep, who won an award for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady, and George Clooney, who accepted the award for Best Actor for his role in The Descendants - which also won Best Drama Picture.
The Best Actress prize went to Michelle Williams for her stunning portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in My Week With Marilyn.
Ricky Gervais hosted the 69th annual show, adhering to his usual style by poking fun at the assembled A-Listers.
