Mudstock
Who: The crowds
When: Woodstock '94 Saugerties' August 1994
The three day extravaganza - that was supposed to celebrate peace, harmony and all the attributes of the 60s hippy festival Woodstock - took a darker tone. A sprinkling of 1969 veterans, such as Santana and Joe Cocker were on offer, but so were crowd pulling, metal bands, Nine Inch Nails and Metallica.
The festival tried to ban all alcohol and force all festival goers to use the Woodstock dollar - the only currency recognised on site. Then came a monstrous down pour. The already frustrated audience went wild and began the biggest mud battle ever seen! So much so that Nine Inch Nails came out on stage covered head to toe in dirt so they didn't have to face the firing line.
