Most David Lynch films make little sense, and this is another fine trip to nowhere, not that that's a bad thing. 'Mulholland Drive' was one of the best directed films of 2001, expertly weaving existensial drama, neo-noir, fantasy, psycholigcal thriller, an examination of sexual repression, social satire and mystery.

Once again, Lynch gleefully blurs the lines between fantasy and reality to serve as a backdrop for his wildly different characters, culminating in stand-out performances from Naomi Watts and Laura Elena Harring as a naive young actress (Watts channeling Dorothy in 'The Wizard of Oz') and a darkly mysterious woman who has lost her memory following a car crash (Harring smoulders here).

Both women are chewed up by the city of Los Angeles, contorting their muddled identities into one singular unit as a conspiracy unfolds. Lynch tastefully constructs a lesbian relationship between the two while intensifying one of his greatest motifs - the Pandora's box mystery.

Don't take a trip down 'MUlholland Drive' if you're looking for answers or anything solid to latch onto. Here, Lynch has taken the aforementioned 'Wizard of Oz' and infused it with his own (brilliant) 'Lost Highway', to create a hallucinogenic nightmare that builds an intense atmosphere. It will unnerve you, that is if you manage to sit through it.

The Blu-ry from Studio Canal offers a fantastic opportunity to unlock the mystery and follow Lynch's clues. It makes for a perfect, twisted night in.
