Fashion in the movies
Hubert de Givenchy - 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' (1961)
Of all the movies, 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' is arguably the most iconic for its use of fashion.
Under a collaboration with celebrated film costume designer Edith Head, Givenchy supplied the breathtaking gowns for the film, creating the glamour we associate with Hollywood today.
His perfectly-cut, feminine dresses and gowns are ubiquitous on movie posters decorating the walls of young women, and the Audrey Hepburn Little Black Dress and pearls, which epitomised the Chanel ideal, has been imitated so many times it's almost a costume
For the film, Givenchy sought revenge against Head, by crediting her as merely 'wardrobe supervisor', which was a huge demotion. Head had taken credit, and won an Oscar, for Givenchy's work in the earlier movie 'Sabrina'. Givenchy also created the Paris numbers in another Hepburn film 'Funny Face'.
