Jessica Simpson has given birth to her and fianc Eric Johnson's first child at long last.
The singer and fashion entrepreneur announced daughter Maxwell Drew Johnsons arrival in a post on her website on 1 May.
A statement from Simpson read:
"Eric and I are elated to announce the birth of our baby girl Maxwell Drew Johnson. We are so grateful for the love, support and prayers we have received. This has been the greatest experience of our lives."
Simpson is believed to be resting comfortably with baby Maxwell, who weighs 9 lbs 13 ounces.
The singer was first reported to have checked into an LA hospital earlier on 1 May, and it was alleged that she had settled into a $4,000-a-day birthing suite in preparation.
The stars sister, Ashlee Simpson, revealed her excitement to People magazine, saying:
"Bronx [Ashlee's child] and I are in love with Maxwell already! Jessica has wanted to be a mum since we were little girls and I couldnt be more excited for her and Eric!"
Simpson and Maxwell's father, Johnson, announced their engagement in November 2010.
