Lindsay Lohan released from jail early but sent to rehab

Lindsay Lohan has walked free from jail early.

The 24-year-old 'Mean Girls' actress served just 14 days of a 90-day sentence for breaking her probation in a 2007 DUI charge.

However, the Hollywood starlet isn't completely free just yet. The Beverly Hills judge who sentenced her has agreed to move her into a rehab centre to deal with her alcohol and drug problems instead of keeping her in the overcrowded women’s jail.

A spokesman for the L.A.County Sherriff’s Department confirmed to the paparazzi photographers waiting outside Lynwood Correctional Facility that she was released at about 1:35am.

While celebrity gossip site TMZ claimed that Lohan was addicted to methamphetamine, otherwise known as crystal meth, her attorney Shawn Chapman Holley says this is false.

Holley told Radar Online: "The report that my client Lindsay Lohan is going to be treated for methamphetamine addiction is categorically false.  It’s a fabrication, 100 per cent.

"I have never seen anything that implies that my client has an issue with methamphetamine abuse."
