The greatest fake bands in music history
The Monkees
Another band created for the screen instead of the vinyl are The Monkees. After the overwhelming success of The Beatles' first film 'A Hard Day's Night', Hollywood and rock producer Don Kirschner decided to create a TV series about a musical fictional foursome that took over the world.
In an interesting development, the Monkees broke away from their TV commitments and began to write their own songs that the show wouldn't permit them to use. By their third album, they were writing and playing some of their own material, and will eternally be remembered for their hit 'I'm A Believer' (actually written by Neil Diamond).
