David Lynch broke new ground with this surrealist horror nightmare, which spawned from a $10,000 grant awarded from the American Film Institute for his fine arts degree. It wasn't enough, so the eccentric borrowed from friends and worked odd jobs to film his tale of industrial landscapes gone wrong, twisted dreams, paranoia and the killing of innocence.
