David Essex to join Eastenders

David Essex is set to join the cast of Eastenders later this year, it has been revealed.
The singer and actor will play Eddie Moon, uncle to Shane Ritchie’s character, Alfie Moon.
A statement from the BBC confirmed the news and disclosed further character details.
"Eddie is the head of the family and will arrive with his children in tow heralding a new era for the Moon clan."

The 1970's pin-up has said he's "really excited to be joining the square."
"Eddie Moon is a great character and I can't wait to get to grips with the role and work and such a fantastic cast."
Sixty-three-year-old Essex has been a successful singer and actor since the 70s, achieving 23 top 30 singles in Britain alone.
His best-known hits include Hold Me Close, Gonna Make You a Star and Rock On.
He also starred in films such as That'll Be The Day and Stardust and was made an OBE in 1999 for his charitable work.
