The greatest conspiracy films ever made
The Parallax View (1974)
Back when Warren Beatty was still making films (and very good ones at that), 'The Parallax View' was one of his riskiest. Beatty plays a journalist who, alongside his friend, witnesses a political assassination - seemingly the work of a lone gunman. Years later, his friend notes that all of the other witnesses have died or disappeared and she fears she's next. She's right. The journalist investigates, and uncovers the sinister Parallax Corporation.
Mysterious, paranoia-inducing corporations were nothing new (especially in 1970s, Nixon-era cinema), but this film contains a montage scene that is nothing short of breathtaking. After watching it, you really believe that such a spectacle could actually brainwash people into killing. The really interesting thing about 'The Parallax View' is that it suggests that lone men can uncover the truth but that it doesn't necessarily help them; it only highlights them as a target.
