Despite being pulled and re-released months later, the damage had been done and became one of the biggest failures in cinema history.

It is also often cited as the cause of the now-familiar 'No animals were harmed…' disclaimer after the $40 million movie was marred by mass allegations of animal cruelty and deaths.
