Led Zeppelin – O2 reunion concert (2007) – HIT
On December 10 2007 the surviving members of seminal hard rock band Led Zeppelin got back together. Drummer John Bonham had suddenly died in 1980 and the band had wisely decided to call it a day, and not try to find a replacement. But the reunion concert saw his son Jason pick up the sticks and join Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones.
One million fans registered for fewer than 20,000 tickets for a show that marked their first full length gig since 1980. The concert was a one-off benefit show in aid of legendary music executive Ahmet Ertegun, who had died the year before. The critical praise was unanimous and Led Zeppelin was resurrected.
In a spot of handy timing, a new best-of, ‘Mothership’, sailed up the charts and all of their songs became available on iTunes just a month before the hugely anticipated concert. Many speculated that the band would launch a world tour but Plant declined, having found renewed fame as a solo artist following his collaborations with Alison Krauss (which was a celebrated comeback in itself).
