The best beat'em ups ever made
Streets of Rage
Year of release: 1991
Platform of choice: Sega Megadrive
Sega's premier fighting series throughout the 90s was Streets. With 2 sequels, a range of comics and a soundtrack album, this really was all the rage.
The game was a sideways scroller, heavily influenced by the likes of Double Dragon. And like Double Dragon, a large part of the fun here was found in the co-operative mode.
But it was when players called in the police support that things really got crazy on the screen. With air raids and missile attacks launched from support vehicles, this game provided a truly exciting ride.
