9. The Legend of Zelda - 52 million

The Legend of Zelda series has seen gamers taking on the role of Link to rescue Princess Zelda and save the land of Hyrule in several games, starting on the NES through to the Wii.

Many people, quite rightly, hail the Ocarina of Time on the Nintendo 64 as the best console game ever made while the success of the latest release, The Twilight Princess, can only bode well for this franchise's future.
