Gary Glitter arrested at home in connection with Savile enquiry

The former pop-star Gary Glitter was arrested on Sundayand taken to a London police station where he was reportedly quizzed on the Jimmy Savile scandal. Glitter, who is 68 years old, and whose real name is Paul Gadd, was released the same day. 

After some ten hours of being in the company of the officers investigating the Savile case, which concerns sex abuse claims, Glitter was released on bail and is expected to face questioning in December.



A police spokesman said: “Officers working on Operation Yewtree have today, 28 October, arrested a man in his 60s in connection with the investigation.”



He continued: “The man, from London, was arrested at approximately 0715hrs on suspicion of sexual offences, and has been taken into custody at a London police station.”



Glitter, who is famed for his career as a music artist in the 1970s and 80s, is now at the forefront of the Metropolitan Police investigation.



The claims that young children were sexually abused over a period of 40 years is a case that has already concerned the late Jimmy Savile and actions taken by bodies at the BBC, including an emphasis being placed on the TV programme Newsnight.



Glitter has been previously jailed for child sex offences as he spent time in prison in Vietnam in 2006.



As referred to by The Mirror, he also signed a sex offenders’ register and was convicted in 1999 of downloading child pornography.



Savile, a former TV presenter who died in 2011 at the age of 84, is allegedly linked to the sexual abuse of 300 young persons. His grave recently became the targeted of vandalism.
