5 - James Cagney in 'White Heat'
In 'White Heat' Cagney plays the quintessential gangster Cody Jarret and literally explodes at the end with the classic line "Made it Ma! Top of the world!".
When 'White Heat' was released in 1949 the tough guy gangster wasn't all that tough but Cagney defined the genre hurtling out killer one-liners like "No, I'll warm you up a little" after someone begged to not be killed in cold blood.
