Privacy and security

At Supanet, we take the security of your account very seriously. However, to keep your webmail account secure, you need to be vigilant and thoughtful too when using your PC.

Logging in:

When you log in, Windows might bring up a prompt asking if you would like your password remembering for future use. If the PC you are using is not for your sole use, it is not a good idea to say yes to this. Even if you are the main PC user, it is worth considering the possible security implications before you do agree.

Logging out:

The beauty of Supanet webmail is that you can retrieve your email at any time and from any PC. However, using public computers does pose a security risk, but only if you are not careful.

Always log off when you have finished using Supanet webmail. If you do not, someone could have access to your emails and email account, especially in a public place such as an Internet caf.

Your password:

Keep your password in a safe place. Never give out your password to anyone else. This may sound obvious, but if your password gets into the wrong hands, someone has your identity online and could use it to retrieve personal information about you to your cost.

If you lose your password, or want to change it, you can now change and retrieve your password online. Visit the Supanet account management page.

Spam:

At Supanet work hard to try to reduce the amount of spam you receive. However, it's inevitable that some messages might get through eventually.

Spam is both annoying and potentially dangerous.

Never be tempted to reply to spam email. If an offer seems too good to be true, it probably is. Most of these messages are attempts to get secure information from you, especially passwords and bank and credit card details.

Never click on links embedded in spam emails. These could link to pages that could cause a security threat to you or your PC.

Think twice about clicking the 'unsubscribe' link in a spam email. The vast majority of these spamming agents will not remove you from their lists. The links just validate your email address. It's likely you'll receive more spam email if you attempt to unsubscribe.

Viruses/Attachments:

Make sure your anti-virus software is up-to-date. If you haven't got any installed, think seriously about getting some. The numbers of viruses is up considerably and you could get caught out if you are not prepared.

Be especially wary of attachments you are not expecting. They could be harmful.

Even if the email address belongs to someone you know, it may not be safe. It could be from a PC already infected with a virus.
