Keeping your kids safe on the net

The internet is a great thing for kids, featuring some wonderful educational and recreational resources for children of all ages.

Unfortunately, it also contains lots of "adult" material that will concern responsible parents, as well as many hidden dangers, due to the anonymity of many users.

The best way to protect your children is to supervise their use, be aware of the dangers and to use the tools available to you for monitoring their use of the net if you're not around.

Safe surfing rules for kids

You might not be able to watch your kids all the time when theyre online, so its important that they know how to stay safe online.

Discuss the dangers with your children, ensure they follow these rules and your familys internet experience will be trouble free.

Check your history

If you want to know which sites have been visited recently on your PC, click the 'History' button in the Internet Explorer toolbar.

This will list all recently visited sites, so you can check the internet content viewed by your family is acceptable.

Monitor your PC even if you're not around

You might not be available to monitor your children's use of the internet all the time.

However, there is software available to do the job for you, setting limits on the type of site your children can visit, along with limits on the time they can spend online.

Supanet's anti-virus software comes complete with these parental controls. You can try it absolutely free for 30 days. For further details click here.
