Johnny Vaughan was one of the most popular radio personalities in Britain until he left his job on his breakfast show, which used to earn him £1 million. In November, he unexpectedly quit London’s Capital FM, ending an eight-year run. 

Now, Johnny is back to host a daily show that will air in drivetime for two hours. It will be filmed from Hyde Park in London during the Olympics. He cheerfully commented on his new gig: “I’ve got the right sort of face for radio.” 

He seems to be moving on quite well, not only from his career at Capital FM, but also from his shameful past. In fact, Johnny Vaughan is all too honest now about the mistakes he made in the past, particularly his drug dealing conviction. He says it has a long-term effect on him and his family. 

He recounted how he wasn’t allowed to have a holiday trip with his family abroad because of his record: “My children were too young to understand and were crying by the luggage carousel as I was being escorted by armed guards back to the holding tank.”

His daughter Tabitha, now 11, also read about him on Wikipedia. Johnny recounted: “She was in tears again because she’d found out that I’d been to prison for drug dealing.”

“It was the first card to fall in the adulation of her prefect Dad. It’s a big one and it’s awful and heartbreaking.”

Although the events happened when he was 22 and he’d already completed his four-year jail sentence at Stocken Prison in Rutland, its effects can still clearly be felt by Johnny and his family, but Johnny is doing his best to move forward from it all.
