Half of one of the most successful music acts of the 70s, Karen Carpenter developed anorexia during her teens. Friends say she felt pressure to live up to her own expectations, as well as those of her record label and her fans. Her heart was weakened by years of extreme dieting, and at just 32 she died of coronary failure.
