Discovering the dresses that changed the world
Wallis Simpson's wedding dress - 1937
Almost 60 years prior, Wallis Simpson's wedding to the Duke of Windsor received much publicity and public scrutiny.
The year before, King Edward VIII had abdicated the throne so he could marry the divorcee Simpson, a turbulent scandal that shook the nation to its core at the time.
Matching Simpson's simplistic style, the wedding dress was a modest, understated floor length blue gown and high-necked long-sleeved jacket. Within days, a cut-price version was available in stores, and it soon became one of the most copied dresses of all time.
