First female prime minister for Down Under
For Britain there was Maggie Thatcher. For Australia its Julia Gillard who's become the country's first female prime minister.
The south Wales-born politician was sworn in as the new leader after PM Kevin Rudd stepped down rather than face Labor party ballot.
She is the 27th Australian PM and the second foreign-born ruler since Billy Hughes (1915-1923).
