There are plenty of rumours about how you should not stand next to a microwave when it’s on and so forth, but there is actually no evidence to suggest that an undamaged microwave ‘leaks’. However, many microwaves react somewhat explosively if metal items are placed inside. More commonly they are a burns risk for children and the elderly.
