The potential killers in your kitchen
Under the kitchen cupboard
There’s all manner of harmful products stored in the typical kitchen, from cleaning products to rat poison. The mixture, if spilled can do anything from give off a poisonous gas to exploding. On their own, they can blind people, irritate skin or burn. The one golden rule is never store any food in these areas and keep this cupboard locked/out of reach from children.
Cleaning products that suggest that they eradicate “99% of germs” can be problematic, particularly if overused – they can easily transfer the cleaning product’s potentially harmful chemicals into food.
Also, many believe that the rise of auto-immune conditions such as eczema and asthma is partly due to over cleaning – if children aren’t exposed to enough germs at an early stage, they can’t build up a strong immune system to defend against them. Still the proven benefits of cleaning products generally outweigh the harm they could cause.
