A clinical trial focusing on relieving the suffering caused by the newly-bereaved will start soon. All patients will have lost a first-degree relative, and will be put on the drug duloxetine. They aim to monitor the signs of depression, as well as health status, pain and other symptoms.

Researchers at Cooper Green Mercy Hospital and the Jefferson clinic in the US said: "We expect substantial reductions in measures of grief and bereavement, with improvements in the measures of pain, symptoms, burden and functional status." However, the trial is controversial as many believe that it is only natural to grieve and should not be medically remedied.
