One pilot study saw patients using topiramate (usually used for the treatment of seizure disorders) to combat their addiction. They achieved a full remission of their gambling behaviour.

The drug reduces the arousal associated with gambling. Yale University is currently taking this one step further by trying to develop memantine specifically for this use.
