Days before his big comeback concert at the O2 arena, the King of Pop passed away. As well as a huge state funeral, fans flocked to record shops and their computers to buy and download his hits. And one year after his death, Michael Jackson has become one of the richest celebrities ever.
Marking the anniversary of his death, 200 items belonging to the late star went up for auction. The Swarovski encrusted glove worn for the 1984 Victory tour sold for an astonishing £126k, while a pair of loafers expected to reach £2k went for £60k. In total it made $1bn
According to figures from Billboard magazine, the star has made a swift $1bn (£677mn) posthumously, with $383m (£259m) generated through album sales and nearly $400m (£271m) collected from the 'This Is It' film.
Who benefits? With MJ not around to enjoy the success, profits get shared betwen his mother, three children and charity.
