60% of adults say that they know they eat too much, but boredom and laziness has been highlighted as the biggest trigger for unconscious eating. It is linked with weight gain.

The study by the Jenny Craig weight management programme found the other top triggers for unconscious eating are depression, watching TV and the desire to feel happy.
