I find watering plants in the garden exhausting...
I am getting elderly and find watering plants in the garden too exhausting. The soil is chalky. Please can you suggest some plants/shrubs/flowers that would thrive during periods of "drought" conditions - i.e. in an English climate (Reading area) when it doesn't rain?
I know the feeling. There are lots of Mediterranean shrubs and flowers that would fit the bill. Along with maritime plants they will withstand quite a lot of drought, though you will have to look out for plants that are vulnerable to frost. Here are a few suggestions: geraniums, pelargoniums, Seneca, rosemary stransvaesia (gorgeous berries), hypericum, and the periwinkles, vinca minor and major - nothing will kill them off! You could also try some ornamental grasses for variety. And of course Spiraeas!Search the web
