I have a water-logged garden

I have a water-logged garden. Without the use of land drains how will I rectify this problem? The ground is full of clay & the garden has been turfted for 18 months.

The first solution that jumps to mind is to dig a pond. This would enable the excess water to drain into it. It has the added advantage of allowing you to plant aquatics thus adding an extra focus of interest in the garden. The alternative is to plant trees such as willow and alder but do bear in mind that water seeking trees have surface roots so your garden would have to be sufficiently large to allow you to plant the trees at a suitable distance from the house.
