I planted a weeping willow last year
I planted a weeping willow last year. Can you tell me when to prune and how?
Easy peasy-when it has cast its leaves, which usually occurs right after the first pinching frost. Its a plant that requires selective pruning. That is, you cut out all the dead wood, old wood and damaged wood. Then you can prune down to the sort of height you are aiming for. Some varieties are actually coppiced (cut right down to ground level) annually in order to get a wide spread of new branches rising from the base for basket making! However since your plant is still young I would not prune too harshly.Search the web
