Go to your nearest nursery and buy a 2-3 year-old crown of asparagus. Dig a load of manure deep into a bed in a sunny spot and wait for the spears to arrive. increasing in number every year if you give the plants a good top dressing of manure annually. If you don't have a nursery nearby have a look in one of the gardening papers such as Garden News where you will see plenty of asparagus crowns for sale. Forget your waistline and drench them inloads of melted butter. Happy eating!
