Is there any special care magnolias need?
Last year we planted a small Susan Magnolia in our front lawn. It is fairly well drained and gets the sun in the afternoon being on the west side. It is a little exposed to the north wind which comes off the sea half a mile away although being in Kent we get few frosts. The plant is quite small and is just about to flower for the first time. We would like it to grow big and strong. There are several magnificent specimens not too far away. Do we need to feed it and is there any other special care magnolias need?
Magnolias are lovely but very slow growing so dont hold your breath! Just be sure that you keep the soil acid and give it the occasional tonic of seqestrene, which you can buy in any garden centre.Search the web
