Genuine ghost towns
2. Prypiat (Ukraine)
This is one of the most potent sites of disaster in the world – home to the infamous Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant workers. Once home to 50,000, it was abandoned in 1986 following the catastrophic meltdown.
It stands as a museum of abandoned life, still complete with everything that was left behind including valuables, newspapers and electronics as residents were only allowed to take one suitcase of uncontaminated possessions. Mass looting has since ravaged the site and nature has taken its toll – viewers can even see trees growing on rooftops.
