How your unwanted items can make a masterpiece

According to new research, Brits are getting better at recycling.

The vast majority of households recycle items such as paper (89%), glass bottles and jars (84%).

However, less than a third of us say we are recycling less common items such as electronic equipment, from microwaves to televisions and anything in between. And essentially anything with batteries or a plug can be reused in some way, meaning less rubbish in our landfills.

To help show exactly what items can be recycled, a number of local authorities around the country are raising awareness of the broad range of materials we can all recycle.  

Using recyclable materials, that typically turn up in landfill sites, celebrated sculptor Stuart Murdoch has created iconic pieces for sites around the country, including Canterbury, Southampton, Bristol, Plymouth, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Sunderland and Norwich.
