The Soil Association has valued our consumption of organic foods, cosmetics and clothes at 2billion per year, citing our health as the main reason why we buy into the fad.
But how much healthier for you are organic foods and do they justify their increased price tags? We take the test to uncover the truth behind a selection of your most basic meals and snacks.
Non-Organic: Dolmio Extra Winter Vegetable Pasta Sauce (1.52)
Organic: Seeds of Change Mediterranean Vegetable Organic Pasta Sauce (1.79)
Verdict: Whilst the Organic sauce contains monounsaturate fats (which help lower cholesterol) there's no denying that the non-organic Dolmio sauce has fewer calories, less salt and sugars as well as 90% vegetables compared to the 75% that the organic sauce has.
