New miracle drugs
Tesofensine - the new obesity drug
What's it for? Helping people maintain a healthy weight
An accidental discovery has led to this drug, hailed as being twice as effective as existing treatments which help the overweight shed the pounds. When combined with an appropriate diet patients could lose up to 20% of their weight in six months.
Tesofensine is so powerful when it comes to reducing hunger that scientists are regarding it as the chemical equivalent of stomach stapling or gastric-bypass surgery. This should hopefully put to rest the waves of ineffective treatments currently in circulation.
When's it expected by? Currently waiting for a UK over the counter license. Larger trials are also in the works.
